Client

Founded in 1923, global pharmaceutical Novo Nordisk has a strong history in diabetes care and has a pipeline of drugs to treat diabetes and other diseases (co-morbidities) that are often present.

Challenge

Novo Nordisk sought to improve its people’s skills and expertise in the chronic diseases associated with diabetes, such as macrovascular complications, renal disease and obesity.

It set the Education and Events team within Guy’s and St Thomas’ Commercial Directorate the challenge of delivering in-depth knowledge, training and education for its medics and non-medics. The aim was to bring patients, clinics and clinicians closer and gain insights into the daily working life of healthcare professionals and multidisciplinary teams by seeing patient experience and pathways in action.

The Commercial Education and Events team had to deliver the brief while upholding and reflecting Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust values and maintaining patient confidentiality and safeguarding protocols with minimal impact on its services.

Solution

The Commercial Education and Events team, Novo Nordisk, and Guy’s and St Thomas’ clinical teams co-created a dynamic, creative and comprehensive three-day programme.

The Novo Academy of Excellence included traditional lectures, but delegates also attended workshops and gained real-life outpatient clinic experience and unparalleled insights into the patient journey. They went on guided tours and listened to expert patient panels to hear patients’ experiences first-hand.

Outcome

In their feedback, the delegates awarded the Novo Academy an overall score of 4.2 out of 5, prompting the client to confirm six more academies from 2021 to 2023.
